About the Project

In the Balang Commune of the Siem Reap Province in Cambodia, over 9,000 residents have been dealing with a severe food shortage since an earthen levee was destroyed during the 2000 rainy season. EWB-NY and Human Translation are currently collaborating on the design and construction of a 20m water gate and repair of a 600m earth embankment in order to provide irrigation water for the commune. Once installed, the reservoir will increase the rice crop yield as well as increase the flow of commerce across the river.
